First and foremost, this lens is smaller and lighter than tele zooms, an absolute necessity for photographers like me, who do shoots in a variety of settings. I’ve done engagement and senior photo shoots in some incredibly remote locations, in order to capture the beauty of my subjects against breathtaking scenery. On these shoots, I have to hike a long way, and am only able to take a certain amount of equipment. The Nikon 180 lens is perfect for these shoots, as it is lightweight enough to be carried anywhere my clients want to go. And of course, the optics are amazingly superior to many other lenses out there.
This is a second reason I love this lens so much. There are a lot of lenses out there, from a lot of different manufacturers, so it can be hard to choose a good one. But the Nikon brand is one I’ve trusted for years, as is the Nikon 180 lens. In fact, I’ve been using Nikon 180 lenses since they came out in 1970. Every time they come out with a new version, I upgrade, because the optics just continue getting better and better. The current version, the one I own and use, has better optics than the tele zooms, and focuses by moving internal elements, a big plus for me.
All photographers, whether they are professional or amateur, in business or just hobbyists, have their own unique preferences when it comes to equipment. The Nikon 180 does have a few characteristics that could be considered drawbacks, depending on individual preference and optic needs. However, for my professional needs, the Nikon 180 is the lens for me.
